About the Artist

Hi, Andy Wright here. I have worked as an artist in my spare time for over thirty years. Focussing mainly on landscapes but also producing portraits in charcoal on occasions, I am entirely self-taught. I work in a variety of media including oils, watercolour, gouache, oil and chalk pastel, acrylics, pencil, charcoal, ink and crayon.

I was born and grew up in Bradford, West Yorkshire, but have lived and worked  in the West Midlands since 1982, settling in the Worcestershire canal town of Stourport-on-Severn in 1987 and raising a family.  That's why there are more recent paintings featuring Worcestershire than that of my "home" county.

It all began with working in oils whilst still at school (Bradford Grammar, where David Hockney attended before me); but then I switched to watercolour after the early years and more recently - in the last 5-8 years or so - have added acrylics to my range.  When painting on location I mostly use watercolours, being easier to carry,  but occasionally acrylics. And most recently...the beginnings of an exploration into using palette knives.

Since being "professionally retired" in the spring of 2016, I have been able to devote more time to what was never a hobby, or a fleeting passion; more a way of life.
